TMT recycles project waste with less than 1% going to landfill.

Intro

At TMT we've been working hard to reduce our environmental footprint with less than 1% of our construction waste going into landfill on our latest project in Manchester - 3 Hardman Square.

Working alongside property consulting company, JLL and client Royal London, we’ve been using this project in Manchester as a model for our future sustainability ambitions, with great success.

The Cat A refurbishment project, will see everything from plasterboard, flooring tiles, glass, timber and metal being recycled or repurposed rather than traditionally being sent to landfill. Working in partnership with Tarkett, an approved flooring recycling and manufacturing company, 100% of all flooring tiles we remove from the fit-out project are being recycled and repurposed for use in the future.

The sustainability factor isn’t only focussed on the items being stripped out of the building, but it also applies to those things being introduced into the fit-out project including new flooring products which are made from 93% recycled materials and the introduction of ultra-LED lighting which uses 60% less power than traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs.

The ultra-LED lights have a 3.5x the lifetime of traditional lighting, making them cost effective and increasing light outputs.

Tom Traynor MD at TMT commented:

“Royal London and JLL asked how we could help them achieve their sustainability targets for the refurbishment project. Although we have worked on numerous sustainability projects previously, this one gave us the opportunity to explore new initiatives and work with our supply chain to bring new products to the project.

We haven’t passed on any noticeable costs to the client by introducing the additional measures, and it has given us a blue print to use with future clients, helping them to address their sustainability targets.”

Jonathan Wiedemann at JLL added:

“Incorporating energy efficient initiatives and ensuring maximising recycling is key to achieving our clients sustainability targets. 3 Hardman Square is a great example of sustainably led refurbishment. The finished office will not only look fantastic but also Include numerous green credentials.”
