Approach

This was only the fourth EcoPod constructed in the UK.

The net zero carbon construction incorporates numerous sustainability features which include rainwater capture, solar panels, passive ventilation and sustainable timber frames.

The special timber frame was constructed using FSC sourced timber as an alternative to a traditional steel frame, reducing the embodied carbon footprint of the building.

A super-insulated facade using soft wood with excellent energy retention properties (keeping more heat in during the winter and also helping to keep the interior cool in summer), Intelligent orientation of the building ensured we achieved optimum levels of sun and shade, impacting on overall energy requirements for heating and cooling. Finally, Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels were placed on the roof and an under-floor heating system and passive ventilation installed internally.

The impact it‘s made

The project was completed on time, ready for the incoming Tenant (Costa) to immediately commence with their fit out works and take occupation. The site is on a very popular and busy retail park, which remained fully operational and useable throughout the duration of our works.
