TMT, one of the North West’s leading commercial contracting specialists, was behind the redevelopment of the outdoor space which took 20 weeks to complete. Working alongside landlords XLB, the remodelling of the space between the inter- linked Grade II listed buildings creates a sanctuary in the heart of the city, as well as boasting a number of environmental positives as well.
The biophilic designed outdoor space is lined with trees and plants which help to improve air quality and wellbeing, whilst the space has also been designed to reduce water wastage, reusing rainwater to sustainably maintain the green spaces throughout the year.
The project forms part of multimillion pound investment programme that also saw TMT remodel the basement of the historic buildings, creating brand new wellbeing amenities, including 20 showers and WC facilities as well as a state-of-the-art cycle store, with space for 167 cycles, e-charging points and a repair station. All designed to increase green commuting to and from the city amongst the building’s occupiers.
Tom Traynor, MD at TMT commented:
“To have an impact to both the external and internal features of these iconic buildings in the heart of the city, is rewarding to us. At TMT we have a proven track record of delivering commercial projects similar to this across the country. We build long-standing relationships with all of our clients, through our hard work and attention to detail. We look forward to working with XLB on future improvement works.”
Stephen Wormald, Associate Partner at XLB added:
“We are delighted with the outcome of the works TMT have been Involved in at The Tootal Buildings. We set off on a mission to transform these Iconic buildings back in December 2020 and are very pleased. In a matter of weeks post completion of the courtyard, we had secured an exciting new occupier for the buildings which Is a testament to the quality of the design and works.”
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham officially opened the newly completed courtyard recently by planting a tree in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee. He was joined by colleagues from TMT, XLB and the building’s occupiers to mark the occasion in style.
